Published on
Somerset Indus Capital Partners (“Somerset Indus”), a leading healthcare-focused private equity firm, is pleased to announce that Proparco, the private-sector financing arm of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Group, has committed USD 15 million to Somerset Indus Fund III. This partnership underscores Proparco’s confidence in Somerset Indus’s mission to scale affordable, high-quality healthcare across India’s underserved markets while achieving measurable social impact and strong financial performance.
Expanding Access to Affordable, Quality Healthcare
Fund III invests in growth-stage healthcare businesses that bridge accessibility, affordability, and quality gaps for India’s “missing middle.” The Fund targets companies across hospitals, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and digital health, emphasizing Tier II and Tier III cities where access remains limited.
Somerset Indus’s track record includes 15 portfolio companies, of which eight remain active, collectively supporting 40 hospitals with 4,500 beds, 4,600 healthcare professionals, and 5,000 diagnostic facilities. Through these investments, Somerset has improved access to healthcare for millions of patients and created sustainable employment opportunities across India’s emerging healthcare ecosystem.
A Shared Commitment to Impact and Sustainability
Advancing the SDGs through Healthcare Investments
The Somerset Indus–Proparco partnership contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, and SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth).
Across its three funds, Somerset Indus tracks quantifiable impact outcomes through its proprietary Impact Measurement and Management Framework, delivering measurable results such as:
- 105 million lives impacted (direct and indirect)
- 22,000 Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) averted for cardiac patients
- 47 percent women beneficiaries across hospitals and diagnostics
- 82 percent of patients served from Tier II and III cities
- 705 kW of rooftop solar capacity installed across facilities
- 10,000 jobs created with 54 percent female participation
These metrics highlight Somerset Indus’s systemic approach to integrating climate-health resilience, gender equity, and responsible growth throughout its portfolio.
