With a specific focus on supporting innovation in sustainable development and working alongside the innovators who are shaping the private sector of tomorrow, Proparco helps to create decent jobs, provide essential goods and services, and combat climate change.

To perform its mission, Proparco structures its work around three strategic objectives: acting for a more sustainable and resilient economy in Africa and certain priority countries (fragile, conflict-affected or low-income countries), acting for our planet, and acting for greater equality.

Proparco actively contributes to France's international partnership and sustainable investment policy.

Proparco bolsters the private sector's contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the international community in 2015. 

Proparco finances private stakeholders who are committed to sustainable development, helping them improve their governance and operational, social and environmental performance. 

In the countries in which it operates, Proparco plays a unique role as trailblazer and market facilitator by creating opportunities for the private sector. It rounds out the offering of local and international commercial banks by providing financing in euros, US dollars or local currencies.

Proparco supports socially responsible and sustainable private sector investment, mainly through financial intermediation by financing banks, funds and microfinance institutions that in turn invest in businesses. 

Proparco grants loans, acquires equity interests, provides guarantees and technical support. Proparco also offers expertise in non-financial areas, such as project structuring and advice on environmental, social and governance issues.

Our investment policy

Proparco works in tandem with players in the solidarity sector and with international partnerships. These joint initiatives are essential for achieving the SDGs. Private businesses and financial institutions are one of the main drivers of economic growth in emerging and developing countries.

To meet the growing and increasingly complex needs of the private sector in the countries where it operates, Proparco works particularly with development finance institutions that belong to the EDFI (European Development Finance Institutions). The resulting partnerships strengthen technical and financial cooperation in order to boost the overall impact of solidarity and sustainable investments.
