Supporting accessible, high-quality private education

By liaising and coordinating with public authorities, Proparco provides expertise and financing to support national education programmes. A broad range of client support – across the education community, from the primary to higher education sectors – covers professional and technical training and lifelong learning.
Transmission of knowledge and skills transfer is an essential tool for development. By stimulating this through its commitments and support for private sector actors who provide quality services to as many people as possible, Proparco helps to enhance the quality and equity of education systems with the aim of promoting the socio-professional integration of young people, boosting local economies and reducing inequalities.
Ensuring as many people as possible master basic learning skills
In primary and secondary education, Proparco works alongside public institutions to provide quality education for children from middle-income and disadvantaged backgrounds. Recent projects have focused on improving teacher training and supporting the deployment of quality learning programmes.
Project focus - In Mexico, strengthening complementarity between the public and private sectors with EDILAR
At the end of 2024, Proparco renewed its commitment to the EDILAR Group, which provides educational content and resources for nursery, primary and secondary school teachers, mainly in the public education sector. EDILAR also provides certified training courses for teachers, recognised by the Ministry of Education, helping to improve teaching quality for children in both the public and private sectors.
Promoting access to university education
To remove obstacles that may hinder young people's access to higher education, Proparco is mobilising three levers: support for the creation of school networks and university campuses, assistance for banks or businesses offering affordable student loans, and boosting the student accommodation market.
Project focus - A new campus to advance the training of healthcare personnel
In 2024, as part of its partnership with AMIU, the applied health sciences university of south-east Kenya, a subsidiary of NGO AMREF Health Africa, Proparco granted a $US5 million loan for the construction of a new campus north of Nairobi. This amount will be used to finance phase 2 of the project, which will significantly increase the campus's capacity (up to 10,000 students) to meet the growing demand for training specialised healthcare personnel.
Enhancing youth employability through innovative educational solutions
Proparco is working to strengthen professional and technical training to help young people acquire skills that are both useful in their day-to-day lives and suited to the needs of the labour market. This approach is based around partnerships with businesses that have launched innovative educational business models – particularly to develop distance learning.
Project focus - Supporting the democratization of technological education
Proparco linked up with Africinvest and Wamda Capital in 2022 to raise funds for GOMYCODE. This Tunisian edtech start-up has developed an app that combines an active learning platform with face-to-face support. Thanks to the $US8 million investment, GOMYCODE can continue to develop its business in Egypt and Nigeria, with the potential to train 99,000 students and support nearly 400 jobs.
