Under FISEA+, AFD Group’s facility implemented by Proparco and part of the Choose Africa initiative, Proparco is investing in Diani Beach Hospital to support the improvement of healthcare services for Kenyans.
Client presentation
Founded as a 10-bed private hospital in 1997, Diani Beach Hospital is today the largest private healthcare facility in Kwale County, with over 120 beds across four sites. DBH has been a pioneer in offering quality and affordable medical services across the entire south coast of Kenya. It is the reference private hospital locally, working with key local and international insurers, parastatals and corporations.
Project description
Together with DBH’s founder, Dr. Kawaljeet Singh Rekhi, Ascent Capital and Proparco are continuing to grow and strengthen the business, thereby expanding healthcare provision and improving quality of care in an underserved part of Kenya.
Project impact
The expected impacts of this project are as follows:
- Support for the management of about 600,000 patients (hospitalizations, outpatient consultations) over the next 5 years.
- Support for about 1,200 direct and indirect jobs over the next 5 years. In the hospital itself, the project will create about 300 jobs, including 50% for woman (DBH has made a commitment to this).
DBH currently has 47% of women employees and 45% of its management are women. The hospital has a policy for equal treatment in employment between women and men, as well as a policy against the harassment of women. DBH thereby goes beyond Kenyan obligations in this field.
This project will contribute to the achievement of SDG 3 (“Good health and well-being”), SDG 5 (“Gender equality”) and SDG 8 (“Decent work and economic growth”).
