Voices for Change – Morena Makhoana, BIOVAC

For far too long, the African continent has relied on external suppliers for its vaccine supply. From Ebola outbreaks to the Covid-19 pandemic, this dependence has had tangible consequences: delays in access to vaccines, unequal distribution and millions of people left unprotected. To change this situation, Biovac is developing local production capacity, investing in technology transfer and skills development, and helping to build a robust pharmaceutical ecosystem on the continent. The aim is to strengthen Africa’s health sovereignty in order to protect its populations in the long term.
