Through the Bridge Fund by Digital Africa, Proparco is supporting the e-commerce start-up Afrikrea, which offers innovative digital solutions that aim to promote African-inspired products made in Africa.
Client presentation
Afrikrea is an e-commerce start-up that has been operating since 2015. The company has developed a range of digital solutions to facilitate trade in products from African arts and crafts:
- A Made of Africa marketplace to easily sell and buy African-inspired fashion, art and arts and crafts all over the world,
- An SaaS solution, called ANKA, which offers an integrated, low-price logistics service, a wide range of payment methods and management tools.
Project description
Proparco has allocated a EUR 300,000 loan to Afrikrea as interim financing to allow the start-up to continue its activities until its next fundraising (Series A). This financing has been provided under the Bridge Fund by Digital Africa. Led by Digital Africa and deployed by Proparco, this fund aims to provide an appropriate response to the challenges facing innovative African start-ups, whose development is currently held back by the economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Project impact
Through its multilevel solution, Afrikrea is contributing to the development of e-commerce in Africa and the promotion of African-inspired products all over the world. Afrikrea facilitates access to international markets for entrepreneurs and thereby contributes to the economic development of Africa. The project is therefore contributing to the achievement of SDG n° 8 (“Decent work and economic growth”) and SDG n° 10 (“Reduced inequalities”).
