Proparco has invested €12 million to guarantee the documentary credit operations of the Banque pour le Commerce et l'Industrie de Mauritanie (BCI Mauritania) and thereby strengthen the bank’s activities in Mauritania.
Client presentation
The Banque pour le Commerce et l'Industrie Mauritanie (BCI) is among the top 10 banks in the country. It finances the Trade Finance operations of large corporations and SMEs at a local level.
Project description
This project makes it possible to provide guarantees for documentary credit operations for which BCI is the final beneficiary. As this bank operates in a least developed country, the development of its activity to finance Trade Finance operations is limited. Indeed, it encounters difficulties in finding confirming banks for the documentary credit it issues.
Project impact
The expected impacts of this financing are as follows:
- 15 direct jobs supported in the bank over the next 5 years
The project will thereby contribute to the achievement of SDG 8 (“Decent work and economic growth”).
