Senegal: Gade Gui launches table egg production with support from Proparco
Published on
In Dakar, Proparco has granted a long-term structured loan to Gade Gui , one of the leading companies in the poultry industry and a key player in Senegal’s food security. This marks Proparco’s first direct transaction with an SME in West Africa through its new “SMEs Scale Up” facility.
The total financing provided by Proparco to Gade Gui amounts to 2.5 billion CFA francs (around €4 million) for the construction and operation of a laying chicken hens farm (growing, laying, sorting, and packaging). The facility will eventually produce over 80 million high-quality eggs.
This operation also supports Gade Gui -already recognized as a major player in Senegal’s broiler chicken industry- as it expands into the local table egg production segment.
In a context of demographic growth and rapid urbanization, ensuring access to affordable and high-quality animal protein is a key factor for food security. Expanding table egg production capacity -the most affordable source of animal protein- strengthens Gade Gui’s contribution to improving food availability for the Senegalese population.
The equipment and technical support are provided by NTD France, an international leader in high-quality poultry farm installations based in the Gers region of France.
To encourage the emergence of national and regional champions, Proparco now finances SMEs planning major productive investments -particularly in the agro-industrial sector. The “SMEs Scale Up” facility offers structured debt financing (up to €5 million) to established and profitable companies that struggle to access long-term, flexible funding suited to their growth trajectories, including long maturities and grace periods.
As part of these financings, Proparco mobilizes its technical and commercial teams based in regional offices to work closely with clients -supporting them with project structuring, sequencing, financial forecasting, and enhanced legal due diligence.
