Gonzague Monreal appointed Head of Proparco’s Financing Department and member of the Executive Committee

Proparco announces the appointment of Gonzague Monreal as Head of the Financing Department. In his new role, he joins Proparco’s Executive Committee. He succeeds Emmanuelle Riedel-Drouin, who has been appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proparco.
A graduate of Sciences Po Paris with a Master’s degree in Finance, Gonzague Monreal began his career at Banco Gallego in Madrid, where he held several positions, including Head of Financial Planning. He joined Proparco in 2012 as an Investment Officer within the Financial Institutions Division.
Since then, Gonzague Monreal has held several leadership positions within Proparco’s Financial Institutions Division before being appointed its Head in 2022. In this capacity, he led the development of Proparco’s financing activities with financial institutions across all the regions in which the institution operates.
As Head of the Financing Department, Gonzague Monreal will oversee all of Proparco’s lending and guarantee activities. He will lead the sectoral teams with the mission of supporting the implementation of Proparco’s strategy and further strengthening the impact of its financing in support of a fairer and more sustainable world.
I am delighted to take over the leadership of Proparco’s Financing Department at a time when financing needs for the private sector are greater than ever in addressing sustainable development challenges. We will continue our commitment to climate action, reducing inequalities, and fostering resilient and sustainable economic growth. Emmanuelle Riedel-Drouin has provided strong momentum to this department over the past four years, and I look forward to building on this collective achievement.
- Head of Proparco’s Financing Department
The Financing Department is at the heart of Proparco’s operations. It brings together the divisions responsible for financing financial institutions, businesses, and energy and infrastructure projects, as well as the Middle Office, which oversees these operations. Its project portfolio exceeds EUR 8 billion, and in 2025 the department committed EUR 2.7 billion in new projects, including loans, guarantees, bond investments, technical assistance programmes, and investments in credit funds and microfinance institutions.
