Proparco has allocated $10 million of financing to the Transform Health Fund (THF), which is managed by AfricInvest and targets small and medium-sized enterprises in the health sector in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Client presentation
The Transform Health Fund (THF) is a $111 million fund led by AfricInvest, a recognized fund manager specialized in investment in Africa. AfricInvest was founded in 1994 by three partners. It initially focused on Tunisia and subsequently expanded its activities across Africa. The THF fund especially focuses on senior and mezzanine debt for African small and medium-sized enterprises in the health sector experiencing difficulties in accessing financing.
Project description
Proparco has made a $10 million equity investment in the THF fund, alongside other investors, including IFC and DFC. The fund applies the 2X Challenge criteria to its portfolio companies and its own structure. AfricInvest has also partnered with the Health Finance Coalition (HFC), an organization dedicated to strengthening African health facilities. This enables the fund to select targets with high-impact potential.
Project impact
The expected impacts are as follows:
Employment
- 1,276 jobs supported over the next 5 years in the fund’s investee companies (direct jobs)
Gender
- Contribution to gender equality through a commitment to finance companies qualifying for the 2X Challenge (100% of Proparco’s financing)
Access
- Support for the provision of new or improved access to healthcare for 262,558 beneficiaries over the next 5 years
The project will thereby contribute to the achievement of SDG 3 (Good health and well-being), SDG 5 (Gender equality), SDG 8 (Decent work and economic growth), and SDG 10 (Reduced inequalities).
