Increasing the production of Sucrivoire, a major player in local economic development

SUCRIVOIRE came about through the privatization of SODESUCRE and is one of the two main sugar companies in Côte d’Ivoire. The company operates throughout the production chain, from production to the processing of the finished product. It has two integrated agricultural units and produces over 87,000 tons of sugar a year. SUCRIVOIRE is a subsidiary of the Ivorian agribusiness group SIFCA.

Proparco’s loan will finance the rehabilitation and upgrading of SUCRIVOIRE’s production facilities. The investment program aims to improve the yields of its plants and increase the capacity of its facilities in order to strengthen its production. SUCRIVOIRE has an annual production target of 115,000 tons of sugar by 2014, against a current capacity of 87,000 tons.

SUCRIVOIRE’s sugar complexes are major economic development centers and a source of employment for some 15,000 people. The operation will also contribute to maintaining Côte d’Ivoire’s self-sufficiency in sugar supply on its domestic market. The environmental and social action plan will contribute to conserving biodiversity, improving water resources management, and improving working conditions on the supply chain.
