By supporting the commissioning of a wind power plant in Jordan, Proparco is contributing to diversifying its energy mix and transferring a sustainable technology.
Client presentation
The project has been developed by the Alcazar Energy Partners platform, which aims to develop REN in the MENA region and whose funds come from various investors, including IFC (30%).
Project description
It involves an 86 MW wind power plant located in a mountainous areas in southwest Jordan. The electricity will be sold at a competitive price for 20 years to the public electricity buyer NEPCO.
Project impact
With an annual production of 262 GWh, the project will theoretically provide access to electricity to over 60,000 households and will reduce annual CO2 emissions by over 160,000 tons. It will contribute to Jordan's strategy to increase the renewable energy share to 10% of its energy mix by 2020. The project will also employ 200 Jordanian workers during the construction phase of the power plant and will contribute to transferring knowledge and know-how concerning this technology in Jordan.
