Brennand Energia, one of the leaders in Brazil’s renewable energy sector, is building eight hydropower plants in several of the country’s States. They will increase power generation in these regions.
Client presentation
Brennand Energy Group is a family-owned Brazilian group which has been building hydropower plants for 10 years, especially small-scale plants, and producing hydropower. With an installed capacity of 309 MW, the group supplies electricity to the regulated and unregulated market and is one of Brazil’s leaders in the renewable energies sector.
Project description
Proparco’s two loans are the group’s first loans with an international donor. They will allow the company to build eight small and medium-sized hydropower plants, with a total installed capacity of 149 MW and a cost of EUR 350m, in the States of Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Parana, Santa Catarina and Matto Grosso.
Project impact
The construction of these new hydropower plants will have a positive impact on the climate by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 72,000 teq CO2 a year. It will also contribute to creating jobs and improving local infrastructure in the States of Minais Gerais, Pernambuco, Parana, Santa Catarina and Mato Grosso.
