Félix-Houphouët-Boigny Airport is managed under a concession by AERIA and needs to be developed and upgraded. By participating in financing the investment plan, Proparco is supporting the economic development of the capital of Côte d’Ivoire.
Client presentation
AERIA (Abidjan International Airport) is a public limited company under Ivorian law. It has been the concessionaire for the management of Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport in Abidjan since 1996. The Government of Côte d’Ivoire renewed the concession with AERIA in 2010 for 20 years. EGIS Group, one of the world leaders in transport infrastructure engineering and concessions, is its main technical partner.
Project description
Proparco’s loan will support the financing of the expansion and upgrading program for Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport. The first investment program, for a total amount of EUR 24m, comprises the renovation of the international terminal and refurbishment of the charter terminal. It also provides for the development of related infrastructure, such as the servicing of an area for service activities around the airport.
Project impact
This project will develop an economic activity area around the airport and ease congestion in the city of Abidjan. It should thereby have significant impacts on employment. In addition, the construction of a school for economic activities planned by the Government near the project area should contribute to the development of human capital in the country. The project should also contribute to disseminating SER good practices in both the airport and in companies working in the airport.
