Gilbert Meyer has a PhD in economics and is an expert on port-related and maritime economics. Until late 2016, he was Chairman of Catram Consultants, specialised in transport economics. In the earlier part of his career, Gilbert worked in a number of southern French ports (Sète, Port-la-Nouvelle and Port-Vendres).

Catram Consultants was set up in 1982 and is now part of Inddigo Group. It carries out all sorts of economic studies into ports and their development (feasibility studies, development blueprints, market studies, pricing guidelines, etc.), as well as into maritime, inland waterway and rail transport. Catram Consultants are active in France but also have a big international focus, especially on French-speaking African countries.
