Founded in 1992, the Indian group Gravita handles some 240,000 tonnes of lead-acid batteries every year, in compliance with strict environmental and safety standards. This leading industrial player has recently been financed by Proparco. The Group is also present in Sri Lanka and five African countries and is helping to structure a sector that is often dominated by informal players in developing countries. This report is from the Group's headquarters in Jaipur, capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan.

In Dhaka – the hub of global textile production – Proparco is partnering with a major player in the sector in an innovative way. As well as creating permanent jobs in an industry dominated by seasonal employment, a highly original technical assistance programme financed by Proparco is improving the health and education of employees. It's a win-win solution: the company benefits from healthier and loyal female employees who are less likely to be absent from work. We report from the Ananta plant, where 1,112 women have received training through the RISE legacy programme HERhealth.

After a first partnership between Proparco, Bic-Bred Suisse SA and Céréalis in favor of cereal and oilseed imports in West and Central Africa, Proparco continues to support trade financing with Africa. This second operation between Proparco and BIC BRED (Suisse) SA consists of a risk participation in a financing facility granted to the French trader and processor Touton SA.

With this USD 13.8M loan, Proparco, the French Development Finance Institution, supports Ananta Huaxiang Limited (AHL), a subsidiary of Ananta Group in Bangladesh, to increase its sweater manufacturing capacity through the expansion of its production facility located in Narayanganj, Bangladesh. This operation will allow AHL to emerge as a large volume sweater manufacturer and strengthen its competitiveness in the international market.

Proparco, is pleased to announce its partnership with IBL Group, the largest conglomerate of Mauritius (listed on the Mauritius Stock Exchange), and DEG, a subsidiary of German KfW Group, to jointly acquire a 40% interest in Naivas International, which owns 100% of the shares of Naivas Ltd, a leading modern retail chain in Kenya. Successful completion of the transaction is subject to conditions.
