African Private Equity Fellowhip
Proparco launched during an inaugural ceremony on January 12, the enrollment for six months of the first cohort of the African Private Equity Fellowship. The Fellowship is an unprecedented training and networking program designed by Proparco, the Africa Commission of France Invest and the AFD Campus, mobilizing the largest investment fund managers on the African continent to support and empower the future leaders of the Private Equity in Africa.

Covering more than 18 nationalities from the continent, with a gender balance and a diversity of skills in private equity, private credit and venture capital, 50 Fellows of the Private Equity industry in Africa have been selected among more than 600 applicants. The African Private Equity Fellowship offers to the Fellows, the opportunity to meet their peers and their elders during an “executive program”, with the collaboration of the largest fund managers of the continent.

Françoise Lombard, Chief Executive Officer of Proparco, inaugurated this ceremony alongside with Luc Rigouzzo, Chairman of the Africa Commission of France Invest and Managing Partner of Amethis, both emphasizing the constant need to support the development of skills and the growth of a network of investors dedicated to the continent.

The ceremony then gave the floor to Runa Alam, CEO of Development Partners International (DPI) for the first high-profile guest lecture of the Program. Runa Alam reviewed trends in the private equity industry in Africa, the continent’s macroeconomic challenges and the success factors for value creation within DPI’s investment portfolio. For Runa Alam, ethics and impact are inseparable from capital investment, encouraging the 50 fellows to plan for the long term to support the development of the private sector more generally.
