Proparco's objectives

Le couché de soleil sur un fleuve

Reconciling economic growth, social progress and environmental balances

In Latin American and Caribbean countries, Proparco conducts its activities in line with the mandate for emerging countries given to AFD Group by the French authorities, which aims to support “ green and inclusive growth”.

This strategy has two main objectives:

  • Help economies on the subcontinent move towards a growth model that uses fewer natural resources and emits lower levels of greenhouse gases;
  • Promote the development of the local economic base and reduce inequalities

Proparco's operations

To this end, Proparco focuses its operations on:

  • Private sector initiatives for renewable energies and energy efficiency (solar, wind, hydroelectric, biomass…);
  • Strengthening healthcare and education provision (expansion and upgrading of private hospital services and university campuses…);
  • Developing microfinance for small entrepreneurs in the formal and informal sectors;
  • Supporting local banks, in particular to facilitate financing for agricultural and agro-industrial projects and increase the capacity of Latin American actors to meet the rise in food needs in the region.
