TAV Tunisia is the 100%-owned subsidiary of TAV Airports, a leading Turkish company in the construction and operation of airports. TAV Group offers its services to over 35 million passengers a year in the 7 airports it directly manages in Georgia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Macedonia, Croatia and Tunisia. TAV Tunisia operates the airports of Enfidha-Hammamet and Monastir under a 40-year concession signed with the State.
Proparco’s loan will contribute to financing the construction of Enfidha-Hammamet Airport in Tunisia. This airport will comprise a terminal with a surface area of 93,400 m2, a 3,300 m-long and 60 m-wide runway, an 85 m-high control tower, aircraft parking areas with a capacity for 14 planes at the same time, in addition to the terminal’s 18 boarding bridges, a presidential pavilion and a car park for vehicles.
The project was initially signed on 27/02/2009. By extending the country’s airport infrastructure, this project will contribute to the development of tourism, a key economic sector for Tunisia. This airport should also play a leading role in giving an economic boost to the Center-East region of Tunisia. In addition, it will create 2,000 direct jobs during the construction phase and 5,000 jobs during the operation phase of the airport. It will generate substantial resources for the Government of Tunisia during the 40 years of the concession.
