Proparco is supporting the construction by Solarpack Chile of two photovoltaic power plants in Chile’s Northern region, where electricity needs are growing due to the presence of mining industries.
SOLARPACK CORPORACIÓN TECNOLÓGICA is an international company which develops, builds and operates photovoltaic solar power plants. The company also offers consultancy services for solar industry players. It employs about fifty people. Solarpack is the leader in the sector in Latin America and also develops projects in Europe, the USA and South Africa.
Proparco’s loan will contribute to financing two photovoltaic power plants (Calama Solar 3 and Pozo Almonte 2 & 3) in the northern region of Chile. These two power plants, with a total capacity of 26.5 MWc and a total cost of USD 82.1m, have been developed by Solarpack Chile. They are the first plants on this scale in the country.
This project will meet the region’s growing energy needs, particularly in the mining industry – a key sector for Chile’s economy. It will also have a positive impact on the climate by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 37,000 teq CO2 a year.
