Founded in 1992, the Indian group Gravita handles some 240,000 tonnes of lead-acid batteries every year, in compliance with strict environmental and safety standards. This leading industrial player has recently been financed by Proparco. The Group is also present in Sri Lanka and five African countries and is helping to structure a sector that is often dominated by informal players in developing countries. This report is from the Group's headquarters in Jaipur, capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan.

For gender equality in the textile industry in Bangladesh
In Dhaka – the hub of global textile production – Proparco is partnering with a major player in the sector in an innovative way. As well as creating permanent jobs in an industry dominated by seasonal employment, a highly original technical assistance programme financed by Proparco is improving the health and education of employees. It's a win-win solution: the company benefits from healthier and loyal female employees who are less likely to be absent from work.

In 2023, 94 new authorised projects, worth €2.3 billion, will actively contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The "At a Glance" provides a summary of the ex-ante impact estimates for these projects and the 2023 impact monitoring which covered 312 projects signed between 2017 and 2021.

Our private sector financing solutions in Central Africa
In Central Africa, Proparco focuses on providing support for infrastructure projects (especially in renewable energy and transport), the development of agriculture and the agri-food sector, strengthening the (national and Pan African) banking system and the productive sector - especially SMEs - and on developing quality basic goods and services (education, collecting and treating urban waste, etc.).

How the Respublica group is improving access to affordable student accomodation in south Africa
With almost 10,500 beds spread over 9 campuses, Respublica group is one of South Africa’s leading student accommodation providers. Its residences are renowned for the quality of their buildings, their affordability and the range of additional services provided through the dedicated Res Life Program.

Calgro M3 is a group specialising in building affordable housing in South Africa. It is also the country’s first private developer to design and build “integrated real estate projects” comprising residential units in all price ranges within the “low-income” sector, as well as integrated social amenities (including public gardens, crèches, schools and shops).
In 2017, Proparco granted Calgro M3 Developments a local currency loan equivalent to €25 million, which subsequently enabled the construction of almost 3,000 units of affordable housing benefiting nearly 6,000 people.
