Proparco supports the growth of the Vitalis Group, a leading pharmaceutical company in Latin America
Proparco, alongside Acon Investments, DEG and FMO, acquired the Vitalis Group (Vitalis), a leading manufacturer and distributor of generic injectable pharmaceuticals with production facilities in Colombia and Mexico. This acquisition will support Vitalis’ growth and facilitate access to affordable medicines in Latin America.

These two loans come on the heels of QMC Telecom do Brasil’s R$1.25 billion (~$250 million) debenture offering in late December 2023.

Proparco granted a €24 million (COP 75 billion) loan to Colombia’s SOTRAMAC to finance an ambitious and innovative urban public transport project in Cartagena de Indias. This loan will help SOTRAMAC deploy a fleet of 222 buses, running with compressed natural gas, which will form part of the new unified TransCaribe network.

This week, at Proparco’s headquarters in Paris, the signing ceremony of the Green Móvil project took place. Only a year after financing the first fleet of electric buses in Bogotá (the “Electribus” project: 259 electric buses replacing old diesel units), Proparco and FDN reiterate their support to clean mobility in Colombia. This new project in Bogotá, “Green Móvil”, consists in granting loans in local currency for the equivalent of $150 million USD to two SPVs jointly owned by top-tier operators Transdev and Fanalca in order to finance the supply of a fleet of 406 electric buses and the associated support infrastructure. With this project, Proparco and FDN have reached a combined amount of USD 250 million in commitments deployed for the roll-out of electric buses in the Colombian capital.

One year after the Electribus project, Proparco is renewing its support for clean mobility in Colombia with Green Móvil. Financed in partnership with the Colombian development bank FDN, the operation will allow the city of Bogota to acquire 406 electric buses and the infrastructure required for them to run properly.
