Golden Rice was founded in 2009 and is Cambodia’s leading exporter of high-end jasmin rice. In 2013, Proparco granted the company a special loan of 10 million dollars over five years to help Golden Rice finance its growth strategy.

Proparco granted a $50 million credit line to Sathapana Bank in order to support SME financing and women entrepreneurship in the country.

In presence of Mr. Kai Jin Fung, CEO of Sathapana Bank, Djalal Khimdjee, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proparco and Sandrine Boucher, Director of AFD's Cambodia office, Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and Proparco, its private sector subsidiary, have granted a USD 30 million senior loan to Sathapana Bank. Financed by AFD Group, it will be used to exclusively finance loans eligible for the 2X Challenge (for women's entrepreneurship, leadership and employment) up to USD 20 million and loans to SMEs up to USD 10 million.

In Cambodia, Proparco is collaborating with the Foreign Trade Bank of Cambodia (FTB), a long-standing partner of AFD Group, by signing a $20 million line of credit and a €1.5 million technical assistance grant. The project aims to improve access to essential water and electricity services for Cambodian households in peri-urban and rural areas.

Through a $20 million investment, Proparco will support job creation and sustainable development in Thailand and the Mekong region.

This loan will help Golden Rice further increase its production capacities. It will also allow the company to finance an additional 1MW of rice husk gasification for electricity production, thus encouraging innovative technology, supporting renewable energy and decreasing Golden Rice’s energy-related costs.

Through a $25 million investment, Proparco will contribute to the development of small scale, decentralized solar plants for commercial and industrial clients in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Thanks to a €2 million loan granted by Proparco, Microfinance Solidaire will expand its support to some twenty microfinance institutions and social enterprises in Africa, Asia and Haiti. This operation illustrates Proparco's strong ambition to support the private sector in fragile countries, which is a priority of its new strategy.
