indonésie, Home and boats on the water
PT Energi Sengkang, an Indonesian independent power producer, is continuing to develop its gas-fired power plant, which is located in the south of Sulawesi Island. The power plant will eventually cover a third of the island’s energy needs.
Client presentation
PT Energi Sengkang (PTES) is an Indonesian independent power producer. It owns and operates a gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in the Sengkang region, in the south of Sulawesi Island in Indonesia. The company is 95%-owned by Energy World Corporation.
Project description
Proparco’s loan will contribute to financing the extension of the PTES gas-fired power plant. It will raise its total capacity to 315 MW, by installing a 60 MW gas turbine and a 60 MW steam turbine. PTES has signed an exclusive off-take contract with the national electricity company in Indonesia. The French company Alstom will handle the operation and maintenance of the power plant.
Project impact
This project will increase the total generation capacity of PTES by 61.5% and will supply a third of the island’s electricity. It will increase Sulawesi Island’s electrification rate: 73,000 new households will be connected to the local grid. In addition, this gas-fired combined-cycle power plant, which is the most virtuous thermal power technology in this region, will contribute to significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
