Factory of national cement share company
With a USD 20,500,000 loan, PROPARCO will allow NCCL to finance an industrial investment to increase its production capacity for cement, a material that is essential for the development of the country’s infrastructure. This investment will make a significant contribution to the economic development of the country.
Client presentation

NCCL is a cement manufacturer in Kenya. The company was set up in 2007 and is owned by Devki Group, a group of companies that manufacture building materials.

Project description

This project cofinanced with IFC aims to increase NCCL’s production capacity for clinker and cement. The works launched thanks to this loan will increase the cement grinding capacity In Uganda and Kenya and install an additional clinker capacity in Kenya.

Project impact

The project will contribute to creating local added value, reducing clinker imports (and therefore also emissions related to transport), creating a number of direct jobs, and lowering cement costs on a fast-growing domestic cement market. It will also bring about energy efficiency gains, in particular by installing a system to recover heat from production line exhausts. Furthermore, the emissions generated by the cement are among the lowest in the world due to cutting-edge technology and the use of volcanic ash in the final product, which reduces the amount of clinker in each ton of cement produced.
