Professional experience

Jean-Pierre Marcelli is currently the Director of Sub-Saharan Africa department of AFD (Agence Française de Développement) Headquarters in Paris since September 2014.
From 2010 to 2014, he was the Director of AFD (Agence Française de Développement) Office in Cairo.
From 2006 to 2010, he was Director of the regional office of AFD for East Africa Community based in Nairobi and in charge of Burundi, Kenya, Ouganda, Rwanda and Tanzania.
From 2002 to 2006 he worked at AFD Headquarters in Paris as Deputy Director of the Department for Central, Southern and Eastern Africa particularly in charge of operations in Southern and Eastern Africa.
From 1999 to 2002, he was AFD Representative and then Director for Palestinian Autonomous Territories where he launched AFD operations and opened the first office in East Jerusalem.
From 1995 to 1998 he worked as AFD Representative in Ethiopia and Eritrea. Posted in Djibouti he then opened the first AFD office in Addis Ababa.
From 1990 to 1993 Jean-Pierre Marcelli worked as Agriculture Program Officer at AFD office in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. He was in charge of agricultural value chains, livestock and integrated rural development in the North.
From 1980 to 1990 he served as Rural Development Volunteer at Mauritius.
From 1987 to 1988 he completed MSC Irrigation and Water Management at Silsoe College, Cranfield Institute of Technology.
Prior to his professional career, on the academic side and from 1984 to1988 he studied at the Institut Supérieur des Techniques d’Outre-mer (ISTOM), Le Havre – Agro Economy Engineering and Development School.
