SSIT’s container terminal will be Vietnam’s first modern deep-water port, located in Cai Mep near Ho Chi Minh City. It will facilitate maritime traffic and contribute to the economic development of the country.
SSIT is a joint venture between SSA Holdings International and the Vietnamese national maritime company Vinalines.
Proparco’s loan will contribute to financing the construction and operation of a container terminal in Cai Mep, 85 km to the southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, downstream from the Mekong Delta. It will be the first modern deep-water port in northern Vietnam. It will have a total capacity of over 1.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units and will serve the industrial areas of the Hanoi region.
The Cai Mep terminal will facilitate maritime traffic and import-export operations in the region. It will thereby contribute to industrial development in the Hanoi region. The project could generate up to USD 700m of tax revenues for the Government of Vietnam and will create some 500 direct jobs during the construction phase, 340 permanent jobs during the operational phase, and 2,000 indirect jobs.
