Proparco is supporting the medium and long-term activities of Société Générale du Tchad, one of the country’s leading banks, to strengthen the local financing capacity, in a context where this type of resources is scarce.
Société Générale du Tchad (SGT) came about in May 1999 through the privatization of Banque Tchadienne de Crédit et de Dépôt (BTCD). It is today owned by Société Générale, Société Générale des Banques du Cameroun and the Government of Chad. SGT is one of the four largest banks in the country. It operates in the segment of large companies, SMEs and private customers. It has a nationwide network of 12 branches.
Proparco’s credit line will be earmarked to support SGT’s medium and long-term activities. It will allow the bank to provide long-term financing for corporate clients, develop mortgage loans for private customers, and increase the share of medium-term loans for SMEs.
This operation will strengthen the local financing capacity, in a country where long-term financial resources are almost non-existent. It will contribute to private sector development in key economic sectors, such as construction, trade, agribusiness and telecoms.
