The financing of telecom towers will allow the construction of 2,000 telecom towers. Thanks to this network, thousands of people who were previously not connected will gain access to mobile phones.
Irrawaddy GreenTowers (IGT) is a telecom tower operator in Burma. It provides tower construction and joint rental services to mobile phone operators. IGT is a 100%-owned subsidiary of Irrawaddy Towers Asset Holding, which is owned by Alcazar Towers and the M1 Telecom Group.
Proparco’s loan will finance the construction and operation of 2,000 telecom towers for Telenor Myanmar. In 2013, the company obtained a mobile phone license and needs to rapidly deploy its network.
This operation will extend access to the mobile phone network for people (some 14,000 additional people), in a context where the penetration rate still remains limited (about 10%). It will also contribute to generating additional government revenue. In addition, the dissemination of mobile services will contribute to boosting local economic activity.
