EDFI launches new EU-funded guarantee tackling currency convertibility and transferability risks for renewable energy projects

The EDFI Management Company (EDFI MC) launched a new guarantee facility, the T&C Facility, to cover transferability and convertibility (T&C) risks for renewable energy projects located in countries facing significant foreign exchange reserve constraints. EDFI MC, a common platform established by European DFIs to deliver innovative financing facilities in partnerships with the EU institutions, will administer the facility on behalf of Proparco, for a total amount of EUR 26.2 million.

Proparco strengthens its partnership with Equity Bank to support an increased number of MSMEs in Kenya

In line with the Choose Africa initiative and as part of the visit to Kenya of the French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness, Franck Riester, Proparco granted Equity Bank 5 billion KES guarantees (€39 million) to help the Kenyan bank further support job creating MSMEs. Proparco also granted a €550,000 technical assistance facility to support Equity Group Foundation’s endeavours to increase access to health services. The EURIZ guarantee and the technical assistance grant benefited from support from the European Union and the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States.

Agence Française de Développement Group and the ILO join hands to provide access to inclusive insurance for the most vulnerable

Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and its subsidiary PROPARCO have recently signed two new projects in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), which is recognized for its expertise in inclusive insurance.
AFD has allocated a €2.5 million grant to the ILO to implement risk management solutions for small enterprises and low-income households in Africa. The project will explore the potential for public-private partnerships, between governments and the financial sector, to achieve social and development impact. PROPARCO, for its part, has signed a €900,000 technical assistance grant to the Grameen Crédit Agricole Foundation to develop a risk management programme with microfinance institutions, with the ILO’s support, to facilitate access to insurance products for rural communities.
