Employés de Merec produisant du pain
Proparco invests in Merec, a leading producer of flour and wheat-based products in Mozambique. Through this investment, Proparco will enable the company to finance its development and to invest in the country's first industrial bakery.

Created in 1998 and initially focused on the production of wheat and corn flour, the family company Merec has been diversifying its activities since 2010 towards secondary processing (pasta, biscuits and animal feed) to become the leader in this sector.

Through this investment, Proparco supports the creation or retention of approximately 1,200 direct and indirect jobs and the strengthening of food security through the local production of essential products. The operation will also enable Proparco to support the company in strengthening its governance, control systems and environmental and social management.

This operation in Mozambique, classified by the United Nations as a Least Developed Country (LDC), contributes to Proparco's objective to allocate €1 billion to private sector financing in fragile countries by 2020.
