Promoting the emergence of a new Mauritian banking player with a regional focus
In 2010, PROPARCO subscribed to a capital raise as part of AfrAsia Bank’s fund-raising programme for an amount of MUR 158M ($ 5M) and thus acquired a shareholding stake in the bank.
Contributing to the development of capital markets in Africa
Global Credit Rating is a South African rating agency which plans its expansion to West Africa. Proparco became a 10% shareholder of GCR. By investing in GCR, Proparco aims at enhancing the level of financial information and thus contribute to the efficiency of financial markets in Africa. Ratings can play a catalytic effect to attract foreign investment into the region.
Reducing the cost of credit for the South African emerging population
Capitec Bank is a retail bank with more than 1.3 million clients. For the past six years, the focus has been on providing South Africans with affordable, accessible and simplified banking delivered with personal service.
Supporting access to education and housing in South Africa
With a 5 M€ convertible loan to the company, PROPARCO suppors the expansion of REAL PEOPLE’s product range in South Africa and the development of the company.
