Banco Pichincha, Ecuador’s leading bank, offers microfinance solutions to the most vulnerable populations. Proparco is extending its partnership with the bank by supporting the development of its microfinance activity.
Banco Pichincha was founded in 1906 and is today Ecuador’s largest bank and a leading national player in the microfinance sector. The institution has developed a range of loan products for the most vulnerable populations and rural areas. Banco Pichincha has a firmly established nationwide base and high-quality support services, thanks to a network of 193 branches.
Proparco’s loan will allow Banco Pichincha to support the development of its microfinance activities. This financing follows on from a partnership initiated between Proparco and the institution in 2012. In the context of this new operation, Banco Pichincha has pledged to adhere to the Client Protection Principles developed by the international Smart Campaign initiative.
This operation will contribute to improving financial inclusion for populations in Ecuador. It will contribute to the development of income-generating activities and to strengthening the local economic base. It will have a positive impact on incomes for clients and their families.
