PROPARCO has signed today a EUR 30m loan to Azito Energie S.A. This financing will provide an effective response to Côte d’Ivoire’s growing electricity needs via the expansion of the Azito power plant. The project confirms AFD Group’s continued support to Côte d’Ivoire’s power sector and is part of a broader approach to assist the country’s energy transition.
The Africa’s largest wind farm was officially inaugurated today in the presence of President H.E. Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta and representatives of international donors, including Proparco. Proparco had mobilized a EUR 50m financing to the project company Lake Turkana Wind Power Limited (LTWP) to finance the construction of this flagship farm located in northern Kenya, in the Rift Valley. It will supply 17% of the electricity generated annually in the country and an energy 60% cheaper than the energy generated by thermal power plants in operation in the country.
Proparco, IFC and EIB finance the construction of two new solar power plants in Senegal as part of the Scaling Solar program
Through the financing of the construction of two solar power plants in Senegal, Proparco, IFC and EIB are reaffirming their commitment to sustainable development on the African continent. These two new large-scale power plants, the 7th and 8th in Senegal, illustrate the strong momentum underway in the country towards a low-carbon energy transition.
Already a shareholder of Voltalia since 2016, Proparco is participating in the capital increase of this company engaged in the development of competitive renewable energy projects. This capital increase provides the French company with additional resources to increase its impact in emerging and developing countries.
In March 2018, Proparco allocated a EUR 37million guarantee to South African bank Standard Bank to cover its loan to finance the construction of a 37 MW photovoltaic farm in Namibia. A little more than a year after, the solar power plant, located near the city of Mariental in the Hardap region, has just been inaugurated this morning, in the presence of the Minister of Energy and representatives of Proparco, Alten Renewable Energy, which developed the project, Standard Bank and the national utility, NamPower.Diabira.
